Aksel - Looking Back


In the comments of my very first review here, on The Netherlands' song, I mentioned that the calmer more emotional songs are very hit or miss to me, as evidenced by thinking The Netherlands of this year is garbage, while Portugal 2017 was my favorite song of the year. This time that is no different, but this song manages to be both hit and miss at the same time. By that I mean that I love the chorus, but hate everything else. Everything that isn't the chorus is a snorefest and not doesn't sound good to me. However, the chorus is amazing. It's a burst in emotion, and while most of the time when this happens the artist starts making really high notes and/or screaming their head off (which almost always sounds bad to me), Aksel goes just loud and high enough for it to sound beautiful, especially in the last chorus. This was a difficult song to rank, but since I love the chorus more than I hate the other parts, and there's simply more chorus, I will give Aksel - Looking Back a high score.
