Now onto today's event :
27th january 1944 : The siege of Leningrad finally comes to an end. After almost 900 days (872 precisely) of resistance, the Red Army pushes back the Wehrmacht, thus freeing the city. Nearly 1 million people, civilians and soldiers, died during the siege. It is still at the day one of the longest siege ever in modern history.
