Review Raffle: The Ultimate DOOM

The Classic and Most Innovative First Person Shooter.... DOOM

DOOM is a First-Person Shooter released by ID Software back in 1993, It features a lone Marine shooting his way through Demons and other hellish monster has he process through otherworldly military bases, moons, and even Hell itself. The game is a classic for it's impressive and detailed graphics for the time, being one of the first FPS games, and for its large amount of blood and gore. Its just a shame it took me THIS long to finally play the game because it has held up pretty well.

The Original Doom is split up into 3 Chapters each with a about 6-7 levels each ending with a boss level against a big bad Demon. This however is Ultimate Doom, a sort of re-release of Doom featuring a all new 4th Chapter, Thy Flesh Consumed which features new levels. As for the rest of the story... you shoot demons until they die, I think that sums it up well.

Now the gameplay is one of Doom's I'd say timeless features. Mostly you'll be running around each level, killing every demonic menace stands in your way and get to the Exit of the level. (And also possibly finding colored Keys as well) While this is far different from most modern shooters of today, save for some exceptions, I still had a blast playing this 20+ year old game today. Cause in the grand scheme of things it's quite simple stuff.

One of the most important thing about a First-Person Shooter is the Weapons and our "little" marine over here has some of the most iconic and balanced weapons ever.
Firstly are the melee weapons such as the Fists, which are... fairly weak and will certainly point to death if used with a big group of demons, although by using the berserk powerup, the Fists become much more powerful for that level might increases its usefulness when picking off single demons.
Next is the Chainsaw which can rapidly attack demons quickly in melee range.
Now the basic Pistol, as the first weapon you see when you start the game, it also is pretty crappy compared to later guns but is useful when you don't have any ammo left for your other weapons and need to be at a distance.
Up next is the Shotgun, which is more like a much better pistol as it can kill most of the basic demons in a single shot at close range.
Next is the Chaingun, which is a rapid fire weapon thats great at staggering demons at a distance.
The Rocket Launcher shoot explosive rockets at your foes for massive damage, although watch out for the splash damage!
Next with the Plasma Gun is one of the more science-y weapons that shoots plasma fairly quick and with decent damage.
And finally the big one... The BFG9000. A absolute beast at taking down hordes of demons as it fires a giant energy ball and then 40 invisible tracers once the ball hits making for absolute carnage, just becareful of its slow charge time and your ammo count.
Lastly for Gameplay, the Marine can find plenty of power ups in the level which give perks such as armor, health, partial invisibility, and invincibility just to name a few.
