The Yungas Road is a 64 mile stretch of dirt that had become known as Bolivia's Death Road (El Camino de la Murerte). The 64 kilometer / 40 mile route was infamous for its many sheer cliffs (and constant 800 meter / 2600+ foot drops) that two-way traffic had to try and navigate, despite many parts of it being less than three meters (10 feet) in width. Accidents were common - roughly 200 to 300 vehicles would fall off the cliffs every year, almost always killing any of their occupants.

While the all asphalt Route 3 highway has bypassed most of the road as of 2006, our trio got to experience the road in all its infamous glory before motor vehicles got to use the alternative route.
