Story Part 7#2

The story so far: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1637l9uejOELhhIDl-QIyC_k5YZOKjkaj_Q_aDGetuYs/edit?usp=sharing

I spent some time in silence before anyone deemed it fit to check up on me. I felt both a little bit relieved and very anxious as I heard a door open to the right of me. Footsteps slowly approached the front of the bed. I could hear the person who had come in before I could see him.

“Now, you’re probably wondering about quite a few things. I am here because I was thinking that it is time to tell you about some of them”.

The person gradually moved around the to the other side of the bed while talking. When he was there, he started going back. The whole thing seemed pretty pointless, since he just ended up where he started, but at least I got something out of it. When he passed by my rather limited field of vision, I recognised the person that was talking.

It was the red-haired man from before. The spooky one that had tried to drag me off somewhere way too persistently. Seriously, take a hint. At least I finally knew where it was he had intended to take me. Still, I can’t say I was too happy about that.

I should probably have been angry or something. I would have had every right to feel infuriated, as I see it. I had been chased for hours. Pursued relentlessly, and then dropped of a roof to top it all off. That had to be enough to be entitled to at least a little irritation, mustn’t it?

As for what I really was feeling, it wasn’t really anything. That’s right. Nothing. I did not feel anything at all. I probably should have, but doesn’t change that I didn’t. I can’t really say why. Perhaps everything that had happened had worn me out and taken the edge out of any emotion I felt. I didn’t know. To me, it was just how I felt sometimes. Nothing more to it.

“- and that is why. Understand? ”

I was startled out of my ruminations by the realisation that the man had kept speaking. I hadn’t heard a single thing of what he said besides the first few words. Still, it felt like it might be wise not to upset him. Pretending I had heard might serve to placate him.

I first tried to nod, but a jolt of pain made it clear that any physical gestures weren’t worth considering. I tried to say “Yeah” or something like it, but it only ended up turning into some incoherent noise that I had to hope would sound confirmatory.
