Now this is how you reuse a boss, a straight upgrade from the original. Now I'm usually not a fan of reusing a boss in a game unless they do something good with it, Champion Gundyr is something good. Remember Iudex Gundyr from the beginning of the game? Well, you can fight his past self behind a hidden wall right after Oceiros's boss fight. Now for the most part, his moves from his early game counterpart carry over to this one, but you'll notice some new moves. The Champ hits harder and has more combos to boot. Champ here likes to use his body more often in this fight. Before he would just punch you, but now he can punch, shoulder bash, stomp, and kick you. That fucking kick is my kryptonite because I'm never prepared for it and it always fucks me over. The second phase is different here. Instead of turning into a giant tar monster, he gets super pissed and his eyes turn red. He'll gain a new charge move with really good tracking and a bitch to dodge. He'll also add more attacks to his combos, and even mid-air combos. He can knock you up in the air and then kick you straight towards the screen. Honestly... it's pretty fucking cool. Just the way Gundyr moves and around and attack makes this just stellar to look at and makes me want to fight him longer. A great 1v1 with no weird gimmicks to it. The only complaints I have with this fight is the charge is pretty hard to avoid up close, and that kick is bullshit like 90% of the time. Still a fantastic fight and the hardest in a broken sword run tbh. Lore time. Gundyr was once a champion like the Ashen One (you), but when he arrived at Firelink Shrine to assume his duty, it was too late. His Fire Keeper was long dead and the flame already faded. When he was defeated by and unknown warrior, he became a sheath to the Coiled Sword to test future champions as Iudex Gundyr, Judge of Ash. The OST is the same as used in the Iudex version. I've already said I really enjoyed this track. Go back like 30 raffles or so to see my thoughts on Iudex if ya like.
