Need help with computer problem

So the story is this.
At some point norton antivirus got installed into my computer, after some time I noticed that it blocked steam on chrome, steam application and every device connected to the wifi that tried connecting to steam. After being deleted it still bockes access at random points. Even after windows got rewrited, few days later it still blocks access to steam and it's related sites for about 10-30 min at random points. This is what it shows https://imgur.com/a/nt3s0 . At this point I don't know what to do and need help fixing it. Also at some pints chrome shows that my connection is not private if I press to go to the site any way I get the message that is in the link.

If anyone know how to fix this or know someone who maybe could please link them to this site where i asked for the same thing https://stackoverflow.com/q/47124344. Or add me on steam to talk more about this.

In advance thank you for any information and help that you could provide.

Ezder I didn't know norton could change DNS servers router level. Anyway, glad you got it sorted out :)

playing232 [GameTame.com] So far looks like the solution was on router settings to uncheck "Use These DNS servers", after that it looks like everything is ok and it also fixed some minor issues

Ezder Try using Google's public DNS. Set your primary dns to 8.8.8.8 and the secondary to 8.8.4.4

Sounds like either a virus or an incomplete uninstall

Vincent the walking Dogfish Sorry I meant to Delete all Norton-related registry and startup entries and scheduled tasks

Vincent the walking Dogfish said
Go to Control Panel and uninstall EVERYTHING Norton, not just the main Antivirus. Open Services and Disable and Uninstall any Norton-related service. Search your registry and startup entries for Norton programs and disable them all. Lastly, check Task Scheduler for any Norton-related tasks that might be scheduled to run at fixed intervals. Reboot and you should be fine.

El Mudo I did reinstall Windows, maybe in the text I choose the wrong words and it's hard to understand that. But after that i'm using Avast and the problem is still there

playing232 [GameTame.com] It is like that, even norton support on twitter said to do that and after that they just gave up :)

The output is simple: reinstall Windows and use another antivirus)

It's possible your DNS server was changed. To change this, open the network and sharing center, right click on your network and select properties. If a status window opens, click properties in that. Scroll down to where it says Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and double click it to open its properties. If a custom DNS server is set, you will see two sets of numbers. Click Obtain DNS server address automatically then click OK. Hope this helps :)

The link didn't work for me, so I'll just say it here. If you just deleted the security, some things may still be there. Maybe try to find the folder with all the Norton stuff and use their uninstaller. If that doesn't work try to go through the extensions in chrome and delete whatever is blocking it. If that doesn't work then get some other antivirus( I use malwarebytes) and maybe that will find what's wrong. My last guess is to find what part of Norton is blocking steam and stop that. I know this is all basic, but it's all I got

I remember Vinesauce Joel's story about his father having trouble with the program. Interesting to see somebody ask for computer help in the form of a 7 ref raffle.

Reimu☆rena~ Yeah I should try the malwarebytes. And for the link this is the working one, but I don't really think that it will help much https://stackoverflow.com/questions/47124344/norton-blocking-steam-after-windows-rewrite
Avatar

The S does not really help because for example scrap tf has s in the link and sometimes it get blocked as well.

Seems like a terrible problem. If you haven't yet, install Malwarebytes and let it scan your entire computer (its free). Or if that's not possible, back-up important files you have in that PC to an external HDD and reinstall Windows (It'll be easier if you have Win 10). Btw, the stackoverflow page you linked is broken.

You need to type "HTTPS://" not "HTTP://". The S makes the connection crypted (256bit)

You might try using the task manager to find the norton processes that are still running, then find the location of said files and delete them manually.

LordDamager If it's firewall, why would it reccomend me getting norton service?

At this point I'd either use a backup that you made (if you have a hard drive copier) or if not, restart from scratch. As in wipe everything. A good method is to buy a new hard drive, install windows on there and use an "External hard drive reader" to look at it through the new hard drive and move stuff over you need.

The only option is to reinstall the whole Windows.

You can always try a "Hard Reset" which deletes everything and resets. If you are gonna try that just make sure you try to save as much data and files as possible

I guess investigating with a proper technitian can get it sort out, If i were doing it my way, I would totally erase the system HHD and get a copy of windows
Avatar
Ezder said
LordDamager the problem is that i do not use that anti virus program, it blocked steam and after being deleted and after windows clean it still somehow excist on my pc

PLordDamager said
Honestly, try to either define steam and its programs as safe.. or find a better antivirus
