A long time ago I set up my Steam Client to link my cell phone number to my account to receive the SMS messages, but I'm pretty sure you could use something like Skype or Yahoo Messenger to receive the message on your computer. Again I'm not 100% on that, nor am I going to test it, but feel free to SCIENCE!(google) it up yourself. I'll explain why you need it in step 3.

The way this method works is by running the Steam Mobile Client using an Andriod Emulator on Windows. You could do the same thing by running Andriod inside a virtual machine. but this method is much easier to set up. The way to do this is:


1. Install BlueStacks (http://www.bluestacks.com/)

2. Use the manual "Android users without access to Google Play can download version 2.1.3 here" download to download Steam Mobile Client(SMC) for Andriod onto your computer. (http://store.steampowered.com/mobile)

3. During the install of SMC, Valve will send you a one time SMS message to your phone(or program) that's needed to verify that you're you. The SMS code is mandatory, but even dinosaur cell phones from the early 00's can receive SMS messages as long as it can receive texts. You might be able to receive the SMS message through another program or other method, so feel free to google that if needed.

4. After installing SMC, log into it. Click the 3 horizontal lines at the top left> Steam Guard>Settings>Get Steam Guard Codes on my phone

5. Enjoy! Now you can enjoy being able to trade after the 9th and the 5-30% off Mobile Authentication bribe Steam is pushing during this current sale w/out having a smart phone. Take that, Valve! >:D
